I looked at my bedroom walls the other day and just felt… blah. That plain paint just wasn’t cutting it anymore. If you’re like me, you’re ready for a change that packs a serious punch. And I’m telling you, wallpaper is the answer!

Forget the stuff you remember from your grandma’s house; today’s options are a total game-changer. Whether you go for an accent wall or cover the whole room, these modern ideas are exactly what you need to fall in love with your bedroom all over again.

1. Artistic Wonders

The latest wallpaper trends are all about turning your walls from blank spaces into total showstoppers with huge designs. This type of wallpaper is totally size-specific, so you’ll have to get it custom-ordered to fit your wall perfectly.

The mural is one single design that doesn’t repeat and takes up the whole wall. It’s a home run.

Usually, these murals create a whole scene, like a misty forest, a beach, or a city skyline. You can find them in classic black and white or in full, vibrant color.

Some look so real they’re like a photograph, while others have more of an artistic feel. I’m a huge fan of the watercolor designs that are so popular right now. They use soft colors that just work with so many different decor styles.

You’ll find that these incredible designs often come on removable wallpaper. This is perfect if you’re renting and need to take it down when you move out.

They’re also a fantastic choice for anyone who, like me, loves to switch things up and give their home a fresh look on the regular.

2. Printed Perfection

Why not embrace a beautiful repeating pattern on your bedroom walls? Instead of going for traditional prints like flowers or damask, you could pick a wallpaper with a really modern design.

This look is so versatile and would be amazing in a master bedroom, a kid’s room, or even a guest room.

You’ll want to choose a print that fits the overall design of your space. Think about everything from the color and pattern to the scale of the design.

My biggest tip is to avoid a print that’s too small, as it might repeat too many times and look overwhelming. On the flip side, a print that’s too large might not repeat enough, which can feel a little off.

Most modern prints stick to just two or three colors, which really helps define the room’s color palette. From there, you can pull those colors into the rest of the room to create a cohesive look.

I like to pick a primary color from the paper to be the main color in the room, and then use the secondary color as a fun accent. It really pulls everything together!

3. Timeless Charm

There’s something about exposed brick that is absolutely stunning; it just gives a bedroom such an authentic feel. But let’s be real, not all of us are lucky enough to have homes with original brick or wood paneling.

That doesn’t mean you can’t get the look! While you could install real bricks or panels for an accent wall, that can get pretty expensive and take a lot of time.

A much easier route is to give your room a vintage touch with wallpaper that looks just like brick or wood. What I love about this idea is that it’s way more affordable than the real thing. Plus, it’s so much easier to install.

For the best result, you’ll want to invest in a quality wallpaper. Look for one with a large pattern so it doesn’t repeat too obviously. Some wallpapers even have texture, which is a total game-changer.

It creates such a convincing illusion that you’ll have everyone thinking you’ve got real brick or wood on your walls.

4. Tactile Elegance

Bringing some texture into a contemporary bedroom is a must to keep it from feeling flat and boring. The right texture makes a room feel so warm, cozy, and inviting. It also adds depth and visual interest, which I love.

Textured wallpaper can be as subtle as a linen-like feel, which is perfect for covering all the walls in your bedroom. Or, you can go bold with something like a dramatic crocodile texture.

In between, you’ll find amazing options like embossing, flocking, 3D effects, and even wallpapers that look like fabric or fur.

One thing to keep in mind with textured wallpaper is that it can be a little tricky to apply. You really have to make sure the texture lines up perfectly from one panel to the next.

If it doesn’t, your eyes will go straight to the mismatched spots, and it can throw off the whole look of the room.

5. Creative Flair

When it comes to wallpaper patterns, the options are practically endless, which is so exciting! The pattern you end up choosing really comes down to your personal taste, your style, and the whole vibe you’re trying to create in your room.

For a simple look, you could go with striped wallpaper. Or, for something a bit bolder, a patterned wallpaper is a great choice. I’m really into geometric patterns right now; they give a bedroom such a modern feel and totally embrace that minimalist trend.

Think about how the pattern will change the feel of the room. Vertical stripes can make your walls feel taller, which is a great trick. On the other hand, horizontal stripes can make a room feel longer.

Wallpaper patterns also come in different scales. You could have a thin stripe that’s less than an inch wide, or go for wider stripes that are several inches across.

A geometric pattern could be tiny, like a penny tile design that repeats hundreds of times, or it could feature huge triangles that only repeat a few times.

If you do decide on a busy pattern for the walls, my advice is to keep the other elements in the room a bit simpler. While some patterns can look amazing together, it’s a tricky balance to get right.

It’s usually a safer bet to stick with solid colors for your bedding and furniture, pulling from the colors in the wallpaper.

6. Shimmer and Shine Bedroom Wallpaper Ideas

Metallics are absolutely everywhere in design right now, so it’s no surprise that metallic wallpaper is having a major moment. You can find it in so many beautiful finishes, from soft silvers and rose gold to brilliant gold and bronze.

You can go modern with a cool geometric design, or choose something totally unique like a script font or a nature-inspired pattern.

Adding a touch of metallic to your master bedroom walls brings an instant sense of sophistication and elegance. I love the idea of mixing trends, like a dark-colored wallpaper with metallic highlights.

It creates such a stunning contrast and a truly beautiful bedroom design. For a softer, more feminine vibe, look for a wallpaper that combines pastel pink with metallics. It would be just perfect for a girl’s room.

7. Elegant Tones

People often skip over dark colors when they’re picking a color scheme for their walls. But honestly, that’s doing your bedroom a huge disservice. It doesn’t matter if your bedroom is large or small; you can totally make dark walls work.

A darker wallpaper can transform your room into a sleek, sophisticated, or modern space. If you’re a little nervous about making your bedroom feel like a dark cave, just use the dark wallpaper on one or two accent walls.

The secret to pulling this off is choosing the perfect wallpaper. You could go all-in with a textured black wallpaper that looks like suede, leather, or cork. That texture is key because it keeps a black wall from looking like a flat, empty void.

Another great option is to pick a dark wallpaper that has a bright pattern on it. This lets you try out the darker look without fully committing.

The bright pattern balances out the dark color and keeps your bedroom from feeling too moody. It’s a win-win.

8. Blooming Beauty

When I hear “floral wallpaper,” my mind immediately goes to the old-school stuff in my grandmother’s dining room. If you love that traditional look, then it’s a perfect choice!

You can find those small, endlessly repeating patterns in so many colors and flower types.

But not all of us want our walls to look like they belong to our grandmothers. That doesn’t mean you have to skip floral designs altogether.

Modern florals are completely different. Instead of a repeating pattern, they often feature a large-scale design.

This kind of wallpaper might have a few huge flowers that take up the entire wall space. The design is so big it doesn’t repeat at all.

I’ve also seen some really cool designs that mix florals with other trends, like fine lines or geometric shapes. It’s a great way to give a traditional floral look a modern twist.

9. Nature’s Serenity

Bringing a little bit of nature into your bedroom can have such a calming effect. What’s great is that you can get all those beautiful green colors without having to worry about taking care of plants.

Maybe you’ll find a design with a peaceful forest scene, complete with mist and treetops. Or you could go for a nautical theme, featuring the deep sea with huge creatures swimming across the wall.

This kind of bold wallpaper looks amazing behind a headboard. If that feels a bit too much for your own bedroom, it’s a perfect idea for a guest room. Just be sure to match your wallpaper design with the rest of the room’s decor.

For example, tropical palm prints look beautiful with wicker, rattan, or light wood furniture. A nautical wallpaper would pair perfectly with teak wood.

And a vintage-inspired nature scene can look so elegant with Victorian or baroque-style furniture. It’s all about creating a cohesive look.

10. Subtle Sophistication

Not every wallpaper has to be a huge, bold statement that becomes the room’s focal point. Sometimes, a wall covering is just meant to be a soft, subtle backdrop for your other decor ideas.

And for that, pastel wallpapers are absolutely perfect.

They’re so light and bright, which makes the whole room feel bigger and brighter. The gentle color is much softer than a stark white, adding a nice warmth to the space.

Just be a little careful when you’re choosing your pastel. You don’t want to pick a wallpaper that makes your bedroom feel like a nursery. My tip is to choose one with a sophisticated pattern to give the lighter color a more grown-up feel.

It could be a geometric, floral, or abstract design. You could also go for a lighter color that isn’t typically associated with nurseries, like a beautiful sage green.

11. Playful Delights

Decorating a kid’s room is the perfect time to have some fun! You don’t have to take it so seriously, and you can add a little whimsy and humor. A wallpaper with a unique pattern is a great way to do this.

For a girl’s room, you could pick something with flowers, stars, or clouds. And for a boy’s room, how about animals, cars, an ocean theme, or even something quirky like bananas?

This is your chance to try out interior design ideas that might not fit anywhere else in the house. Let your kids get in on the fun by helping to pick a wallpaper that features some of their favorite things.

Maybe there’s an animal they love that could be all over the walls, or a favorite color you could feature.

I know kids’ tastes change pretty quickly, so don’t feel like you have to pick something that will stay on the walls for the next ten years. That’s why I think peel-and-stick wallpaper is perfect for this.

You just peel off the back and stick it on the wall. Then, when it’s time for a change, you just peel it off. So easy!
